Day 14

Today marks the end of the second week of Colorado's mandatory quarantine. It's also the final day of the Lockdown Selfie Challenge (for me anyway). While the daily social media posts and selfies will stop, I'll be continuing to post on here every day throughout the duration of this unprecedented hellacious torture. I'm almost wondering if "Big Pharma" isn't behind this pandemic as a way to increase psychiatric medication utilization.

Today is also rather bitter-sweet for me. It's my Mother's Day. Nineteen years ago today, I became a mom. Because of the quarantine, I can't visit my son and give him a hug for his birthday. This breaks my heart. He was able to go for a bike ride with his girlfriend this morning and she bought him a small cake, but it's not the same as celebrations with family - complete with Mom's Death by Chocolate and lasagna!

I discovered this morning that the whole social distancing thing has really impacted me on a subconscious level. I dreamed this morning that I was watching an Easter parade (that consisted of kittens dressed as bunnies on a conveyor belt in the street) and everyone had a hula hoop around them to preserve their personal bubble. In case you were wondering, my hula hoop was purple and green!

Today's Tips:

  • Wash your hands with soap and hot water for at least 30 seconds. I recommend singing "The Record Player Song" by Daisy the Great while you scrub. Try to ignore the fact that you really need a manicure; we all do!
  • Go through your wardrobe. What do you no longer wear? What no longer fits? Gather up the stuff that's been taking up space in your closet / bureau and donate it to your local charity. Everyone, regardless of social status is struggling right now. Good Will and other charities that accept clothing donations will soon be inundated with people needing clothing and other household items that they are unable to purchase new. Most charities will even issue a receipt for your donation that you can use for tax purposes. You'll be creating space, helping people, AND getting a tax write-off. Win-win-win.
  • Start a gratitude journal. Every day, write down three things you're grateful for. It's not as easy as you might think - especially right now. Today, I'm grateful for warm weather, good books, and Bubba Lou!
Until tomorrow, stay healthy my friend!
